“I will stop calling Sarah Palin a bitch when she stops calling Obama a terrorist sympathizer. And I will stop calling Sarah Palin a bitch when she stops calling the parts of the country where I don’t live more Pro-American than the part of the country where I do live. And I will definitely stop calling Sarah Palin a bitch when she stops acting like a bitch. I’m old enough to remember the Republican party of Barry Goldwater - when the party stood for fiscal responsibility, small government and personal freedoms. I remember when I could talk with friends about politics and just agree to disagree. And then religious nut cases decided that if you didn’t agree with them you were immoral. So they went and elected George Bush President so he could take the Republican Party from being a party full of respectable people to a party filled with asses, jackasses and yes - bitches like Sarah Palin. I am tired of Rush Limbaugh suggesting that feminism is a dirty word. How hard did he fight to gain the right to vote? Or own property in his own name? Or get equal pay for equal work? And I am tired of Sean Hannity suggesting I am un-American because I don’t think that war is the answer to everything. How many bullets has he taken defending his country in battle? And I am tired that Sarah Palin can decide what she wants to do with her body but other women can’t make that decision for themselves.” —

What was I thinking when I called Sarah Palin a bitch? « Margaret and Helen

help, tumblr fashionistas, help!

onesong:

you’re my only hope, and all that!

i really want a capelet coat, except i want one that’s really well made and has longer sleeves (aka, not the ann taylor loft version of a capelet coat).  this is something that i will be wearing for years, so i’m willing to spend some dollares on it—say, up to $600.  anyone have any suggestions, even on wear to look?  i would prefer one with just buttons, no tie, and in a nice neutral (or red!).  HELP!

Cate! I saw this cape coat in Emmett McCarthy’s collection when I was working on my Project Runway blog post. It’s so gorgeous and his work gets rave reviews for its quality and timelessness, AND it’s on sale for $600. Not sure if it’s what you’re looking for, but I love love love it.

“I still wake up in a cold sweat with the realization that Joe Pesci was actually going to bite off Macaulay Culkin’s fingers in Home Alone. He would have had to chew through bone and twist to tear the tendons and muscle, his mouth would fill with blood, Kevin McAllister would vomit and pass out from the pain, then die. WTF John Hughes!?” —Devin

“…the song is called Womanizer, and it’s about a guy who apparently does not respect women and is only interested in sex, but throughout the video Spears is either naked in a sauna or throwing herself at this guy. I don’t get it. I mean, yeah, I hate womanizers too, but you can’t shake your tits in a guy’s face and say “how dare you get a boner!” I’m a one-woman kind of guy; if you show me a preposterously attractive woman with very few or no clothes on, I won’t act on it, but my penis will want to.” —Joe

The Christian Right Killed the Republican Party → huffingtonpost.com

electriceye:

ifrizz:

In order to win the votes of the triad’s faithful followers, Republican politicians bartered themselves into a hear-no-wrong, see-no-wrong trade-off. This trade-off allowed Falwell to hold sway with politicians, and appear as a respected political pundit on right-wing shows, even after outlandishly insisting that the purple Tinky Winky children’s character was gay, or that the anti-Christ was coming in the form of a Jew. He could promote the idea of ending the public school system in favor of church-run schools, as he did in his book, America Can Be Saved, yet still wield considerable influence in Washington.

This is close, but doesn’t quite show every side of the issue.  Sure, the Republican party courted the religious right, thus bringing a whole bunch of crazies, power hungry charlatans, and neo-cons into the fold.  In the process, the Republican party was changed.

But the religious right was also changed.  In exchange for access to power, they were forced to accept all sorts of anti-Chrstian things, not the least of which is torture, un-just wars, and fiscal irresponsibility.

In the end, they each killed each other; or, they killed themselves.

Spot on, dude.
