This is a great victory for Gabby. But can we just let up on the chatter about women athletes’ “smiles” and “grins”? Gabby has an “irrepressible grin.” Reporters talk about Missy Franklin’s smile as much as her speed. No one talks about Michael Phelps’ smile, and his is as big as anyone’s. These young women are kick-butt jocks who deserve respect for their muscles and their acumen, not their pretty little smiles. Give me a break.
